My eMule computer

Post by Phuzzy4242 »   0 likes

I won't be sharing for a few days because my emule computer finally gave up the ghost last night. Should have another PC set up soon. I have a couple shorts on release so if you want them quickly you'll need to download them from YouTube yourself.

Bummer. My computer parts vendor once moaned that parts manufacturers estimate warranty liabilities based on 'normal' usage patterns of some 8 hours per day. We p2p guys run our computers 24/7.

The old PC lasted about 7 years running 24/7. I had an idea it was on its way out because the CMOS battery died about 3 weeks ago and after replacing it, the PC kept bluescreening randomly. Might have had a power surge that toasted something. Replacement should be here tomorrow (Wednesday). I'll probably have everything back to normal by tomorrow night.

LOL It isn't the first one I beat up until it bled but I got my money's worth out of it. Unfortunately, FedEx tracking says its replacement won't be here until Friday. :(

I'm back up but I had to switch to ScarAngel because Morph would run fine but wouldn't display anything but minimized - kinda hard to search, handle queues, or change settings. :( Your client will see me as a new Phuz.

I swore I'd never have Win8 on my PC but didn't really have a choice. I want to go up and smack the shit out of whoever thought up the user interface. It's like so much other MS crap - you have to get it out of the way so you can do anything useful.

Win 8 is aweful. Every freakin time I want to use my pointer to scroll up/down or side/side I get that damn pop up menu preventing me from doing so that then I have to close out of. There is not one thing I can think of that benefits me in 8. Wait til you have to figure out how to change settings and stuff that used to be so easy.

I've been dealing with Win8 stupidities since it came out so I'm no stranger to it. If you want to keep from having a stroke from extreme anger at the wankers who thought up the user interface, do yourself a favor and get Classic Shell at http://www.classicshell.net/. It has enhancements and fixes to the shell, Internet Exploder, Windows Explorer, but best of all it gives you back a Start Button and Start Menu (XP or Win7 style). Freeware.

He, he! Safe mode in Win 8 is the absolute worst. Remember the days when, if your PC refused to load Windows, you could just hit F8 while booting and get to the safe mode menu? Now you have to boot to Windows, dig down several levels to find the option to restart in safe mode, and then restart.

So what do you do if your PC won't load Windows? :wall :icon_evil2 It is like that oldie by Harry Belafonte - There's a hole in the bucket.

I recommend Hiren's BootCD (http://www.hirensbootcd.org/). It has tons of fixit and diagnostic utilities and boots to a mini WinXP. Hiren's is free and has saved the day for me at work more than once. If nothing else, it lets you copy your data so you don't lose everything if you have to reimage the hard drive. Of course, unless you have a second computer, you need to make that CD before you have problems. ;)

Many - if not most - glitches that cause boot problems are from damaged filing areas that chkdsk c: /r will often fix, at least good enough to get you going again. When I run across that kind of problem, I always run diagnostics to see if the hard drive and/or controller is failing, then run chkdsk. After that I keep an eye on it and if it gives any further trouble I replace it.
