The film is set in a small village in western Russia. It is a story about two days from the life of an ordinary family: a father, a mother and their five-year-old daughter. That’s what Garik Sukachyov says about his film: "On June 22, 1941, a family is celebrating the daughter’s birthday. It is a beautiful sunny day, full of joy and merriment. For the girl, it is filled with important events and adventure – her birthday is celebrated by the whole village, not just by her family. And no one yet knows that tomorrow her father will leave for his work in a district center and come back a few hours later in a home guard uniform only to say goodbye to his family. And that at the moment of their leave-taking the Germans already will be entering the village. And that they will be shot by the river, on the same bank where only yesterday the carefree, happy family was sunbathing and having fun..." - ruscico.com

O M G!!!

What a heartbreakingly BEAUTIFUL movie!!!

Similar in sorts to 'Burnt By the Sun', but featuring some wonderful vignettes of the girl out playing with her friend [the tree-swing scene stands out!]. There's even some nudity thrown in, but the main draw to me were the scenes of the little girl just out being a 'little girl'; experiencing the joy of childhood!! She was absolutely captivating!

Filmed entirely in sepia tone [sort of like Lars Von Trier's 'Element of Crime' but brighter] the movie is filled with lush, at times surrealistic scenery!

I'm going to buy the DVD, for this one! ( http://www.petershop.com/en/catalogue/v ... zdnik.html ) :bigups: :bigups: :bigups: (I'm ALSO leaving it to share out...)

This beautiful gem is WELL worth the download, if not the purchase of an original DVD! ULTRA KUDOS to the original poster!!!

I agree the movie is very good and should be seen by many.

a film that reminds us that cruelty as such should not be repeated and to also remind us that in certain parts of the world it is still happening. stopping it is a must. I am referring to the sad ending of the film only. the rest of the film is beautifully shot and has a lot of details that should be of great interest here. that leads us to the wonderful upgrade corsarace provided.

Thank you corsarace :thumbsup :thumbsup
