"a heartwarming story of a 12yo tongue-in-cheek blatant orphan fighting her way through the system" is completely inaccurate. I translated this out of some german, french descriptions of the film. If you wanna see that, go watch Annie.
This is more like "a gut wrenching story of a foul mouthed 16yo holding on to something that doesn't exist". If you've read the book, you'll understand, if you didn't it's good but only after about 45 minutes into the film when things finaly look sunny.

I never ripped this but many versions are available. Below is verified. Sophie Nelisse is kinda cute so this 1 belongs here!

Synopsis reads:
12-year-old wisecracking Gilly Hopkins finds herself shuffled from foster home to foster home until she meets Maime Trotter.
