[REL] Vang Vir My 'n Droom AKA The Spots on My Leopard (1974)
Re: [REL] Vang Vir My 'n Droom AKA The Spots on My Leopard (1974)
Stinking Uloz liars, this is not in English as they claim but (quite reasonably) in Afrikaans!
(No incorrect information is here at FLM, I am just clarifying things.)
Imdb seems to indicate there may be an English dub but this is not it.
I have not found any subtitles in any language; if anyone finds them, please share.
Please note: play back the video in 4:3 aspect ratio.
Thank you Phuzzy! (And Andrej1984 and ghost.) Now that I have adjusted my expectations as to how well I will comprehend this, I am sure I will enjoy it.

This is why I changed the thread title and moved the film to Unlisted - there's virtually nothing U.S. about it, including language.Night457 wrote:Stinking Uloz liars, this is not in English as they claim but (quite reasonably) in Afrikaans!

Maybe Disney put a few dollars in it or the producers borrowed Flipper?
I don't see all that many Afrikaans-language films, so this is a refreshing change. I am just used to Uloz technical information being accurate, and at Uloz it said this had an English soundtrack. It could have said nothing instead and been accurate. I said, "Oh, with a title like that I thought I would have to look for subtitles." I do not remember what the FLM thread title was beforehand, and I usually do not notice the country anyway (!) so it was solely the uloz info that was misleading me.

Stuff at Uloz is uploaded by users so there's no real standard. The thread was titled "[REQ} The Spots on My Leopard (1974)".
Re: [REL] Vang Vir My 'n Droom AKA The Spots on My Leopard (1974)
OK, it would be more fair to say that stinking anonymous Uloz uploader lied. Uloz administrators have better things to do than verify audio specifications. In all honesty, I am grateful to that stinking anonymous Uloz uploader for sharing a rare film, since that is what really counts.
I like the Afrikaans title better!
Now that I have seen it, I have an alternate interpretation:

LOL Thanks a lot Night! you go into threads here with so much passion, I really like it.
Although I'm Dutch and speak Dutch, I have watched this too and I 'can't make much cheese' (dutch proverb, lol) of the dialogues - Afrikaans is like a simplified version of Dutch but it's like they toss words into a word salad and use wrong grammar to glue it together. I was scratching my head a lot.
I wish I could've been of more help.
That doesn't mean I didn't like it! Wow, what a great find this is, and the quality is surprisingly good!
I totally agree with your interpretation! I call for your interpretation to be announced the official interpretation!
(and the girl btw is soo cute, ouch!)
=8)

Re: [REL] Vang Vir My 'n Droom AKA The Spots on My Leopard (1974)
I routinely watch and enjoy movies without subtitles where I do not understand the language, so I certainly was not going to avoid watching this one. I agree it was well worthwhile.
It's funny, I was wondering when watching it exactly how much different Dutch and Afrikaans were. I have seen a fair number of Dutch films and only a few Afrikaans; just enough that I could hear the similarities but not enough (sorry to say) to tell them apart. Thank you for confirming that indeed they are different, and I just need to watch more films to train my ears!
I don't know if I can stand the responsibility of my interpretation being adopted as Official!
