Just an update.

I've been trying to download the DVD for a few days now, and it still is resting at 0%. If nothing comes up soon, I'll attempt a message to the uploader. Has anyone been able to access the show on amazon through their vpn?

So, the DVD files are in the VIDEO_TS folder with a bunch of VOBs and IFOs. Is the best way to share these on emule to put them into a .7z rchive?

If I wanted to Release a full DVD on eMule in a single file, I would follow the example of deadman and convert the VIDEO_TS folder to an ISO.

(...continued ...)
Spoiler:

Then I would confirm that it plays back as a DVD in VLC with all options to make sure I did it right. Converting to ISO therefore gives the advantage that it CAN be played back as is in VLC without any changes, AND also reshared. With a .7z archive, it has to be extracted first, which makes twice as much storage space. If someone wants to convert the ISO to a different format they still can.

[NOTE: If you wanted to convert the VIDEO-TS folder or an ISO to MULTIPLE smaller archive files (.zip or .rar) for a file-sharing site like MEGA or ULOZ, that would be fine too. But for eMule a single file is best, and ISO seems best to me.]

There are a number of free software options to create an ISO, and I have not done it often enough to confirm what is "best". If it is already the size of a DVD5, or if I want to easily remove some of the audio tracks or bonus content or compress it down to a DVD5, then I would use DVD Shrink. (A shame that it does not create DVD9s, darnit.) If I want to make an exact copy without changes (especially if it is even a little bit larger than a DVD5), most recently I used ImgBurn. Both of these bits of software are SO ANCIENT that I do not know if they still work with newer versions of Windows. They are small enough that they are worth a try.
deadman - I am curious, if you are reading this thread: Since you are the clear master at creating and editing ISOs, what software do YOU use? Is it free?

Ok, I tried it out with ImgBurn. Watched a few tutorials. Was a little confused about the "Create a Layer Break" portion, but I made sure to do one at a suggested position. The iso works for me in VLC. Lemme know how it works for you.

Is the mds file truly needed for those wishing to burn the disc? I am sharing it just in case.

Yes OMG I just guessed on that one. My second guess was apparently right.

I have always wondered that, but I do not burn discs. Just playing it back on the computer I know I don't need the MDS.

Among the years of arguments, the CLEAREST and most helpful answer I found is this:
MDS files are required to burn a dual layer DVD9 ISO since it contains the location of the layer break.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DataHoarder/co ... ?rdt=51717

There: it is good that you saved and shared it! The implication seems to be that DVD5s do not need it because there is no layer break. Your disc is larger, so it supposedly needs it for burning. Now, why a burning program could not read an ISO that did not have an MDS and let you CHOOSE a new layer break, I have no idea.

I wonder what DVD it was that I recently made an ISO from? I know it was bigger than a DVD5 and I deleted the MDS. But I don't remember if I bothered to share the ISO, even on ULOZ! Huh.

Yes, it works! I was very confused for a while because I could not click on the menu options with my mouse cursor like I normally do. It seemed like a dead menu. EVENTUALLY I figured out that I could navigate the menu using the keyboard arrows & Enter keys. I have no idea if this is something wacky with my computer or some ISOs are different than others.

For my own purposes, I only need to play it in VLC to look at the menus and see the episode titles. I did what I always do: used MakeMKV to rip it all to individual MVKs for the "Play All", "Behind the Scenes", and the individual episodes. I suppose I really only need the Play All as I will likely just watch it straight through.

THANK YOU very much pillowbaker!!

Disc 1 of 3:
Katie Morag S1D1.iso
Katie Morag S1D1.mds

Is the mds file truly needed for those wishing to burn the disc? I am sharing it just in case.

ImgBurn is also what I use to create my .iso files. Although there is plenty of software that will do this. If you're working with a DVD5 (less than 4.3 GB) that's all you need to do. If it's a DVD9 (bigger than 4.3 GB) you get that additional .mds file that contains formatting information associated with the layer break on a dual layered DVD.

I have a lifetime subscription to AnyDVD so I use that program to get rid of the .mds file. Or rather, incorporate it into the .iso. First I mount the .iso, then save the virtual disc as a different .iso file in a different directory (because it will have the same name). For example my posted disc Les Diables (2002).PAL.DVD.iso is a 7.85 GB DVD9. If you use ImgBurn to actually burn it to a DVD-R it will present only one break point to choose from. A little silly that it even bothers popping up a screen for you to "choose" it. But this is how I post .iso files without the .mds.

Proper choice of break point isn't that big a deal anymore. Older DVD players used to freeze for a second when they encountered the layer transition, if it fell in the middle of a video. But any machine bought since the early 2000's is likely to have a memory buffer built in so pauses during playback aren't a thing anymore. Still, I like to choose the best possible spot. For Les Diables it was the one that put the main movie on layer 0 and all the special features on layer 1.

Speaking of ... I referred back to my own post to check the disc size and noticed my thumbnails have been censored! Imgur apparently decided it doesn't like adult content. A few assorted pictures containing nudity are still there which tells me it's an AI doing the censoring. Certain images, closeups especially, which a human would recognize can fool AI morality police software. Not enough visual context. Can't get a match to established templates. Now I'm going to have to fix a whole bunch of posts. Goddamn it!!! Oh well, when filehosts go offline or drastically change their terms shit happens.

Holy crap. I stumbled onto the right software by accident, when I needed to create a DVD9. Too bad I deleted the MDS file! THANK YOU very much for the detailed explanation of the MDS tech. Now I get it.

I hated that. I had assumed it was more advanced DVDs that fixed the problem, but that would have coincided with my getting another player too!

Well that's a first. I seem to remember when it was like 9chan.

Let it go, just let it go! :icon_cool2

I got tired of my postimages.org pictures disappearing, so I turned to including them as Attachments. The multi-step one-at-a-time process is a bit tedious, but at least the pictures STAY at FLM.

I LOVE this show! Thank you SO much for your initial Request, Stefan Duke! This is exactly the sort of entertainment I am delighted to discover.

Heck, I even watched the Behind the Scenes.

Official subtitles someday from somewhere would be nice, although the cast was clearly being kind to outsiders by making the Scottish English mostly understandable. Wikipedia says it was dubbed into Scottish Gaelic for local broadcast.

Although ... I was completely bewildered by "Poohsticks" (wikipedia...Poohsticks), because I never read the Winnie the Pooh books. I had thought that was something used before the invention of toilet paper.

:D

I was hoping someone would appreciate that spunky girl with the delightful accent, an accent that was maybe eased up on for the overseas watchers. Honestly, I was surprised when I played the video after it first downloaded and --bam! There she is, "check it out this is where I live and it's the best, and everyone takes care of me on my adventures and look at my room!"

I started with the episode "the new boy", with the new teacher. "FINE! Then what did he look like?"

As an enthusiast of fluffy bears, I happen to be familiar with pooh sticks. I was honestly wondering if I'd ever see it referenced in media. More on pooh sticks later.

When I get home, I'll respond to the pm and get right on the next two discs.
