[REL] North of Normal (2022)
Re: [REL] North of Normal (2022)
I'll be a ding dang dingleberry!!
Cea Sunrise Person! At 5 years old, running naked through a field yelling; "I gotta wipe my twat!" after using 'The Shit Pit'.

I just finished reading this book back in March. Had no freakin' idea it had been made into a movie..
Now this is one movie that I wish could have been made in Sweden or France as the Persons were Naturists (at least Cea's granpa [Papa Dick], as the leader of the pack, was a BIG advocate of nudism) and there were numerous times in the book where activities were done sans clothing. Well, at least it's Canadian and not a big Hollywood Destruction!
[EDIT: Just watching the trailer I realize it WON'T be true to the book as Papa Dick (the bearded old fart in the long johns) virtually NEVER wore clothes..]
Cea was a confident little sprite and had a number of interesting adventures as a child, when she was left mostly to her own devices and her spirit ran free with wild abandon. If we had known each other as kids, we would've had a blast together.
Unfortunately by the time she turned 10 she started to get self-conscious and nudism fell to the wayside. Hearing that she's 16 the majority of the film, with a few flashbacks to her childhood, we probably won't be shown some her more 'colorful' adventures.. Too bad..
But I'm still anxious to see this movie.
Hopefully it will find it's way to torrents at some point soon.

Re: [REL] North of Normal (2022)
Thanks for these infos, kev.
The movie says "based on a true story", but I didn't know that there is a book too. The nudist part is completely missing in the film.
Papa Dick... what a name!
BTW: Nice pictures.

A torrent for the E-book in English, MOBI format:
https://1337x.to/torrent/5773825/North- ... rson-MOBI/
It downloaded complete for me but I have not installed software to open the file.
(So technically, I have NOT VERIFIED it.)

I got the file loaded and it should be complete in the next day or so.. (My torrent machine loads very slowly due to my throttled internet.)
But I've got it now and should be able to watch this by the weekend! Thank you, and thank you again!!

Wow, that is really throttled, I'm sorry. My ratio on that file alone is 5.58 and I will continue seeding it. I am glad to help.
Re: [REL] North of Normal (2022)
*Sigh*
I guess I'm going to have to go back and re-read this book...
It seems like the initial story of the movie takes off in the middle of the book. Cea's mom had MANY boyfriends before Carl [the guy that takes Cea and her mom away from her grandparents at the beginning of the film] and it seems like the movie sensationalizes a number of points that are mentioned in passing in the book. ('Spoilered' because they contain 'Spoilers'.)
I actually haven't finished watching it yet, as I got so discombobulated by what was going on in the film compared to what I remembered from the book... (Can't believe I actually spelled 'discombobulated' right on the first try!) Anyway...
*Sigh*

WIthout detailing your spoilers, it sounds like in the movie they were going for high drama and intense emotion, while the book was calmer and more reflective.

Absolutely!Night457 wrote: Mon May 06, 2024 3:35 am WIthout detailing your spoilers, it sounds like in the movie they were going for high drama and intense emotion, while the book was calmer and more reflective.
But the movie would have been a bit more controversial WITHOUT the sensationalism had they been truer to the book. Plus, as far as I got in the film [around halfway], they haven't even brought up Cea's REAL father. He was scattered throughout the book. She had around 3 times when she or her mother tried to re-connect with her dad. THOSE scenes would have created some 'high drama' without resorting to building up and padding other scenes that weren't that important in the book.
That's why I stated in my original post, I wish a European director could have made this movie as their as*holes are a lot less puckered up when it comes to nudity within a family environment. And foreign films are a lot better about creating full, vibrant characters that viewers can relate to even when they are nothing like them...
I don't know... Feel like I'm just rambling on, now..
