I will say 2 cases.
one was Secret Garden they used CGI but did not abuse it, and another is this movie The Trouble with Being Born 2020 where the girl is lying by the pool both seemed to me the correct use of CGI.

In terms of superheroes is Batman Dark Knight where in the chase scene they destroyed many cars and many explosions but no CGI including when they flip the truck.

There are still few directors who choose to avoid CGI and spend more money except for Henry Cavill's mustache.

I'm mixed on the 2020 the secret garden. I'm a pretty big fan of the story and 93/75 film and didn't care for some story choices but yes it looked fine visually. I should honestly give it another shot, maybe I was just on the wrong mood the first time I watched it.

Speaking of avoiding cgi and Henry cavill, I do love the mission impossible films. A lot of practical stunts and amazing set pieces. I just love spy films in general. I grew up watching bond and they're total comfort films to me.

I thought Matt Reeves The Batman, while a little long winded, was a great looking film overall. Still a little dreary but at least it makes sense for that movie.

The new superman/ fantastic 4 both have that retro futurism aesthetic i think work really well and are a breathe of fresh air in that genre. Superman shouldn't be a brooding morose mess like in the Snyder films.

Since I'm just throwing out random ones now ill also mention FLM related My Queen Karo. Although tbf thats 2009 so not exactly modern (even if it feels like yesterday to me sometimes):

The Substance, the movie has this really clean, pristine sterile look that really contrasts with the gruesome body horror nightmare the movie slowly slides into. I really enjoyed that one visually.

I don't really care about the new superhero releases today, I can already see that the new captain america is a flop and the fantastic 4 at least don't put forced inclusion like in the previous movie (everyone is black or indian or asian and not johnny storm has a native american sister)

About the topic of this thread, I listen to music from 50 years ago and when I see an old movie it's like if they made a movie in the present only they put the old TV, the old car, the old hairstyles, like the flashback you see in Cold Case.

He will always be superman

I watched both of those and the Adam West Batman and they were all great in their own way for sure.

I alao liked Batman Returns a lot as a kid. Michelle Pfeiffer vacuum sealed into that catwoman suit was life changing for me.

I never liked those movies, but I do remember that. :3

Takes me back to when movies were made when some guy was actually inspired to make them, and not just obligated to churn them out every ten minutes.

Same for me. Because, Superman! Alone and different. So did Reeve himself. Arrggghhhh I love you, Reeve. :blush

And The Incredible Hulk TV Series. Who remembers? I remember. I never forgot.

Strong but childish (Why, I don't know). Maybe he needed someone to calm his anger. Who knows? Just like me. :)

I am deeply touched. I might cry. :eh

In all seriousness, I do think Christopher Reeve was terrific, and not just as Superman.

Spandex (Lycra, elastane) was the greatest invention for superheroes, but it did not come about until 1958. Sorry, George Reeves.

If David "Bruce" Banner (Bill Bixby) had worn it, would it have been stretchy enough so that he was not constantly ruining his clothes whenever The Hulk (Lou Ferrigno) popped out? :think

It's a real shame, that he ended up like this.
