I suggest subtitles when you do watch Ratcatcher.

Why?

The film is English and I'm fluent in that language

IMDB Trivia on "Ratcatcher" wrote:Although this film is in English, the US release has English subtitles because all the characters speak in a very heavy Scottish accent.
I appreciate movies where people talk how they actually talk, instead of hiding their accents to make their speech more broadly understandable in markets outside their own locale. But that does not make it easier for me to follow them! Checking out the OK video I linked I said HOLY CRAP because I had forgotten how thick the speech was.

But maybe you are expert on Scottish accents and will be fine!

Michael Caine (Cockney) and Albert Finney (Northern) among other actors revolutionized British cinema in the 60s and 70s by bringing working class accents to the screen when previously it had all been "posh". For various reasons the 1979 Australian movie Mad Max was redubbed with American accents for the American market. You see what I mean? It is all "English" but not always easily understandable to outsiders. I have no problem being an outsider and want them to use their own local speech rather than the b***** King's English, but still to have subtitles as a backup.

I remember that they dubbed Mad Max with an American accent, terrible, many people who want to see a movie don't want it in English that isn't native to their country and I understand, they tried to sell that movie in that continent.
