I could take this on with the phone audio trick - it works well for French. And it's only 30minutes.

Are you using software to hear the audio and generate English subtitles?
Is this a 100% software process - or does it involve manual typing out the translation like I had to do on a few films? Are you having to fix bad grammar, spellings, names etc, and do manual timing. Curious if there's a better way than I found? The process I used took about 1 hour for each 10 minutes of dialogue - on a good day!!

No! Of course not. It's still hours of work.
Using Closed Caption Creator for the AI (Speech to text). It includes several providers. I prefer Speechmatics as the most accurate one.
After this I do the (Google-)translation with SubtiteEdit. -> Then I have to edit every line and also change the durations (which are mostly too short).
