Honestly I think that directors and writers would love to kill more children. It is the producers and studios that question how far they are willing to go. But since you did say "in general" I have to admit that is true.
Out of all those, I've only watched beware Children at play
Always wanted to watch Pan's labyrinth but I've never managed to yet

Wow, you have watched the most obscure one of the bunch! It definitely could not be included as part of a general rule about horror movies. The others at least are well known and successful.
