IIRC the installer .exe used to contain some bundleware, but not the java code itself. I guess it is safer to avoid .exe and use .jar directly like it is done on non-Windows anyway. Or use yt-dlp with Python.

This was already discussed at length here.

Make sure you won't get hacked like Don_Solaris back in 2011 ;)

OK, who was the real smart-aleck behind the "Don_Solaris" sock puppet? :think

I have now discovered that the same JD2/yt-dlp trick also works with downloading Vimeo videos that say "Video is not rated. Log in to watch." There is no need to log in to download!

There is an extension called VideoDownloadHelper [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ent=search] in Firefox (I don't know if it is available in other browsers). You can download almost anything (with the exception of embedded videos which will give you a bit of a headache)

I remember using that extension back when I used Firefox regularly. (At the moment, mostly Chrome.) I don't remember anything BAD about it, so I just installed it in Firefox again. If I come across a video that is not working with my usual techniques, I will have to remember to switch to FIrefox and try VDH instead. Thanks!
