I think they are closer than just siblings... both emotionally and physically. At least for the movie that I remember.
I have tried to remember more "child love story" movies because I know that I have seen them, but remembering the names of them is a struggle. There have to be many such at FLM. You can not go wrong browsing through the different movie threads until you find something that you think you might enjoy!

I can't believe anyone would think of Les Diables as not being a love story. That kind of surprises me.
Depends on whether you enjoy „love stories“ with „troublesome“ story mixed.

Les Diables is not incest?
In-story, yes. But if you ever have trouble enjoying a brother-sister relationship film just keep in mind the two actors are
not siblings. Totally unrelated.

But for me, the WHOLE POINT of watching movies is to get emotionally engaged in the storyline and the characters! Saying "it's only a movie, it's only a movie" just defeats the entire purpose of watching it: enjoyment in the suspension of disbelief. So if a particular horror movie is too scary or a kind of love story is too yucky, then the obvious choice is simply not to watch it. Watch something you know you will like instead.
However I have watched "The Human Centipede"* knowing exactly what I was getting into, so maybe I am not good at taking my own advice. (*Not FLM, not children.)
Back on topic -- I am trying to come up with more serious love stories about children myself, but most of the ones I can think of are comedic rather than serious! What about "My Girl"? Somebody actually dies in that one!

I really like the movie and because Joseph is really out of his mind (he comes to believe his sister is attached to him) but I wouldn't recommend it as a love story.

So the appeal to you is more as an intense psychological character study? And you think that the "love story" is rather one-sided and delusional rather than mutual and genuine? I can see that, so fair enough.

I wouldn't say Joseph is out of his mind. He's an unwanted child who has fallen through the cracks of the system, starved for affection and stability. His severely autistic sister can't help innocently acting on her sexual impulses and seems to need him. Certainly she needs his care - because she can't take care of herself. Their bond isn't really healthy and can never be truly reciprocal but they
do share a bond that makes sense given the tragic circumstances of their lives.
I agree that this isn't a traditional love story, if that's what you mean.

They have a unique relationship that doesn't fit neatly into some archetype, but there's an obvious romantic aspect to it the movie revolves around, so it's a love story.
[REL] Låt den rätte komma in (2008)
Aka Let the Right One In. I'm sure everyone's seen it but on the off chance you haven't, here it is.
[RREL] Motyle (1973)
Don't care for this one but it fits.
[REL] Mitt liv som hund (1985)
The love interest is secondary, but it's really good and worth mentioning. Frustrated and aggressive adolescents with a happy ending. :D
And I'm sure I've seen more.

I always end up making the same suggestions but Let the Right one in is 100% a love story between 2 12 year olds. So is the US version Let Me In, although somewhat inferior imo.
Gritta and the Rat Castle has a boy and girl in love but their love is not necessarily the central focus of the plot.
Theres one I remember. The boy is in love with a dark haired girl. He climbs to the top of the school and talks to her through some windows above the showers at least a couple of times and the movie starts with them skinny dipping together. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I think it was a love story.
There was another I watched. A boy and a girl are best friends. They are shifting into young adults going to high school. They communicate through lights from their bedroom windows at night. The girl starts to be accepted by the popular crowd while the boy kind of becomes estranged from her due to a rough home life and trouble fitting in. Its super depressing and I dont recommend it but it kind of fits if you like love stories with bad endings.

How serious do you mean? Totally humorless? An insistence on death as the only solution to life's problems, like Romeo and Juliet? Or just a movie that gives the relationship the respect it deserves?
I think this one: Adiós, cigüeña, adiós (1971)

Welcome to FLM!
No no by serious I don't mean complete humourless by serious I mean to say it should not contain those disney high school type cringe moments(it's not that I don't watch them but at present I wanted some movies without those elements b.t.w thanks for your suggestion.
