Looks like a one-shot indy film that wasn't really good enough to play the 'big-time'. Kacie Young, though was a joy to watch; she had quite a bit of screen-time and for a novice actress, I think she held her own.

No, that film was based on a Swedish novel by the same name published in 2004 (a year later). There are plenty of differences with this one - besides the low budget indie feel of
Dawn. I doubt John Ajvide Lindqvist based his novel on this movie either. Indeed, he was probably already in the middle of writing it while
Dawn was being filmed. Two people just happened to have similar basic plot ideas at around the same time. Although a few themes do overlap, they took their stories in entirely different directions.
