The specific reason posting alternate titles is a good idea is to make a movie findable using FLM search if only the alternate title is known. Or Google search, even.

A movie gets it's title when released in the country of origin. I don't care how the Nebraska TV Station renames it when repeated for the 20th time. aka's only make sense if the title is not in Latin writing, but in Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Greece etc or if there are several countries of origin with different titles.

As an idler I think your indolence is incredible. I posted a imdb link at "Stan the Flasher" to show that; amadeus simply sat there and was waiting for somebody to tell him the content of the movie. Seems he was not able to type "http://www.imdb.com" into his adress bar, with or without www.

Even a - after a stroke - keyboard challenged like me is able to copy the movie title (yes, it can be done), click the imdb-link at the "Childhood Website Links"-forum (I bumped it to make sure everybody can find it) and paste the movie title into the excellent "search"-field of imdb. Then make a left-click on the "go"-button, and you will get all info available.

I'm not going to start posting links to Google, MyTube, imdb, rff or any other sites of the 2 pages of links we have at "Childhood website links", if it's not really necessary.

Are you a child? Imdb is worthless in revealing specific content. You should know that.

Although suggested & desirable I'm not aware it makes any mention of it being required in the posting FAQ. We've been down the road before of members attempting to force a more stringent set of posting rules & it usually ends in tears. Quite honestly, I'm grateful for any release, even if it involves some effort on my part to determine whether it's something I want to download or not.

Now you're just being plain daft......IMDB is the universally accepted global movie database. No, it's not perfect, but nothing else other than genre specific sites comes close.
BTW........I remember you causing a commotion when 'Angus Thongs & Perfect Snogging' was posted in the UK section & not as listed & pointed out by yourself at IMDB as USA. You clearly didn't consider it so worthless then. If you're going to be ridiculous at least do it with consistency.

i have been a part of several forums where people post media. and have found that anyone trying to support a site however they can is good enough. adding rules or strong suggestions helps keep it clean and user friendly. but being to strict starts to discourage those that are not tech smart from posting. we don't want that in fact just the opposite. more sources the better. that is where moderators come in play. but they can't do it all. and why should they? no one being paid here. all volunteer. that being said it is up to us to get along with each other and to help everyone. sometimes our emotions get in the way of judgment and lead to counterproductive posting. although it can be quite entertaining

Regarding assisting newbies in making proper posts, I was using my mod power to edit crappy posts to make them look good. Most times a new member noticed this and used my edited post as template. OK, some daft people needed a PM too with some explanations.

But the result was nearly always perfect, happy members encouraged to post.

Many movies have multiple entries under the same title and it's often not immediately obvious which is the correct one. You obviously already had the page when you posted the quote, the proper IMDB link is easy to post and is helpful to others so why not add it? The web is built on links. But as has been said already, it is at the end your choice. FLM is not nearly as rigid in its posting standards as other sites, relying on common sense.

And that's all anyone is asking for. Noone needs obscure AKAs, but some AKAs are obvious and useful, and it is up to the poster to choose. If they are up to the task.

This is particularly bad with US releases of 'foreign' movies. Even movies from the UK (they speak English there too ) are not spared. e.g. The Last of the High Kings has the inaccurate and somewhat misleading US release title Summer Fling.

If I were an American I might even find this practice a bit offensive.

The Madness of King George (1994)

* The movie is based on a play by Alan Bennett called "The Madness of George III". The popular story in the UK is that the movie's title is different from that of the play because it was thought the American audience might mistake it for a sequel. While not wholly true, director Nicholas Hytner has confirmed that it was "not wholly untrue" and it is now widely held that this almost certainly did play a part in the titling of the film. In the UK it would be obvious to anyone that "George III" referred to King George III, but it was felt that elsewhere this might not be so clear and that adding "King" to the title might help. While this explains part of the title change, it glosses over the dropping of the "III", adding renewed weight to the original theory.

Sorry for the rant.
