You have 4 GB RAM and your sytem strikes only because eMule? That's not normal...
I 'only' have 2 GB and system is still fast.. Maybe some wrong settings?

ART: have you patched tcpip.sys? To confirm if the problem is because of that, look in administrative tools> event viewer> system for events with the ID 4226.

Ok, the process for IE closing jumps to 40 at its highest point.

Yay, its fixed.
Ghost, I really didn’t think I had any add-ons, but it turns out that I do.
This was the one causing problems - Spybot-SD IE Protection.
As soon as I disabled that everything became fine.
Of course now im wondering if it should be turned off.

Great! Now check the settings for that. Maybe it is doing something on IE closure that you could do without.

True, although spybot is a bloody good thing to have.

Agreed, but if it does five things, maybe you don't need all five.

Eg. I can set my A/V to do a full system scan every time I boot, but that would be very irksome.

Try Ad-Aware too

Tried adaware but the latest version would find nothing compared to spybot, and updates were few and far between.
Then when my computer was recently rebuilt by an IT technician at the University I work at, he confirmed my fears that adaware was rubbish, and put the latest spybot back in my machine.
I think adaware has had its day
