I was in love with Thora Birch at this period of my life and I loved Ghost World and American Beauty, and I was also into horror a lot more when I was younger(I still am but TBH I've softened a bit with age and some of it has grown harder to watch) so this movie was right up my alley. I also love single location movies. They're always the most suspenseful to me because you know it's a matter of time before people start snapping. I once wrote a short film script about 4 highschool aged kids trapped in a gymnasium from skin-melting rain. I think there is a netflix show with a similar premise, but scouts honor I wrote it way before that show.

She reminds me of this girl from another movie I found here on FLM called Nonneborn

No, you don't need your eyes examined. The two girls resemble each other closely enough to have been sisters in a movie.

The Netflix series The Rain has a lethal virus that falls in the rain, one drop hits you and you're infected. No acid. Less potential for a multi-season story arc with your version - buildings would start taking damage if that went on too long - but perfect for a feature length film. Especially if you include some cute girls who have to shed their wet clothing as they reach the cover of the gym ... quickly, before the acid burns through. :D
