NIS2008 complained about Boilsoft, but I restored the file. I still feel reasonably protected since I have my firewall set to intercept almost all outgoing connection attempts, which if there really is a backdoor trojan should catch its connection to its home. We'll see.

All I will say is, I have had good luck with Norton, been using Norton Internet Security for 5 years. I tend to be pretty careful, so it's not needed very often, but over the years it has caught several threats and I have never had a problem.

I started because they were a free trial on my laptop, I hated the interface and the bloat but it was free. Every year they have improved and solved some of the problems I've had with them, and added features I liked, so I kept paying for it. I never have paid more than about $15: it lists for $80 but each spring so far I have found a combination of manufacturer rebate and store rebate that makes it cheap or almost free.

Is it the best? I don't know. But I don't think it's the worst, it works for me.
