Sadly I don't understand French.

Because the audio is VHS quality the speech-to-text translation is only getting about 90% of the dialogue vs say 95% on the other 2 I did, and some of it doesn't make a great deal of sense - but for the gaps I'm still timing and adding "?" - and it should be better than nothing!
Hope to be done in a few weeks as only spending a few hours here and there. Again - using the faublous Aegisub for the subtitling - makes it really easy to time the dialogue precisely.
Hurray! A new David32441 subtitle project! Did you enjoy this film, David? I quite like the plot description. I really enjoy the childhood friend and adventure stories.

I'm only watching it as I subtitle it - wouldn't want to watch it without the subtitles!

!!!!! I frequently break my viewing of longer movies into installments, but your method makes for a REALLY long viewing!
I look forward to your results.

First 25 minutes (roughly a third) subtitled so far.
The poor quality VHS rip is making audio analysis miss some of the dialogue - and it doesn't work that well with background noise, and music - but it's getting 75-90% of the dialogue, and 80% of that seems accurate / makes sense. There's scenes it does better than others - so don't give up on it if for a few minutes you wonder why "?" appears for a few lines in a row!
It's not perfect - but if you want to follow along better than just watching and guessing then this might be of use.
It's timed to what is the only VHS rip that seems to be around, a 1.3gb mkv file.
Be great if a quality version of this turned up. The film is pretty good it seems.

Seems it's based on a book. A search on Amazon found:
Les genoux cagneux
Published? 1 janvier 1990 (so 2 years before the film came out).

Are you going to get the book to help you with the short dialog sections that your audio analysis misses?
Seriously though, when I already HAVE a translated version of the original book then it helps me with subtitle translations. But I would not get a book unless I knew I had the capablility of reading it.

I was mainly searching amazon.fr to see if they had the film yet. But sadly they don't. Was interesting to see that it was based on a book.
I presume the copy taken is an off-air recording and the film has fallen out of circulation. Sad if it never gets a re-release and just dissapears into a vault to be forgotten

Thank you for posting your work so far, David. Once I get a chance, I'll watch the movie and see if I can pitch in some help with the difficult areas.
