Why don't you get a cable/sattelite PVR box? It's much less hassle (not to mention more green, cos less power than a pc uses) and usually very good quality stream captures.

Something like the "Starview HD Combo" does a great job, captures normal (sd) and HD sattelite or cable direct onto USB memory stick (or external usb hard-drive), or Eurovox does an DVB recorder, and many others :)
In the UK we still refer to any recorder with a DVD drive as being a DVD recorder although to the rest of the world what I use is actually a DVR/PVR. (Freeview digital terrestrial receiver recording to either HDD or DVD). Cable is unavailable to me & the choice of satellite PVR's is very limited with better results achievable with dedicated receivers.
Oh.......& isn't 'green' something that other people do? ;)

I don't want to speak too soon but........
Sony DVD recorder (PVR) seems fine (well it's just generated 'The Child Stealer') & new (to me) oven now installed & working so I'm feeling somewhat less depressed (although lighter in the wallet). Arguably the most therapeutic job was reducing the old oven to fit in the weekly trash bin! :thumbsup
Sadly, the release handle has just fallen off the dishwasher door but as it still operates without flooding the place it can stay like that!
Right!.........what's going to break next? :wall
