BTW my theater room I only have a 90" screen that I use for my projector. My main viewing room is a 67" rear projector LED and the 47" is in my computer room. Mansion? More like 2 story house with attic and a few sub basements and counting....In the desert we build down not up. it is cooler that way.

I was asking quite innocently about preferred encoding settings of DVD rips. The films I have in mind are not available on bluray anyway. (Besides, there is no license to play commercial bluray disks in my OS, so I only download bluray rips from the net).
True, some material is so noisy that DVD has visible compression artifacts already. Also, bluray might have more color depth, etc. Surprisingly they still use the obsolete 24fps framerate, which was chosen almost 100 years ago due to the cost of celluloid film...

I wonder if the blu-ray for The Hobbit will be 48fps like it was at the theater?
A lot of encoders in Japan use 60fps. I did that by accident once and the encode took over 12 hours to finish.

AFAIK, there is no 48p in bluray standard. 60p is possible, but not in full HD. Some people convert 30i to 60p, but I don't think 60p is used on BD.ptguardian wrote:I wonder if the blu-ray for The Hobbit will be 48fps like it was at the theater?
