I was rather dreading watching this. I loved the earlier (1982) version and was afraid that the over-politically correct brigade would have ruined it (like they did with the 1999 TV version) with black actors in the leading roles, but I was pleasantly surprised. Jamie Foxx and the girl with the unpronounceable name : did a very good job and made it work. It helps, of course, that they have decent singing chops (unlike Dakota in Hounddog, which I'm going to watch next).
