Well, at least I was right that someone else would be able to remember more accurately than I could! I just reviewed the entire thread with coffee, not just the ed2k link posts. I guess I got spoiled with the HD season 2. I was pleased to discover that I NEVER was able to retrieve anything from BBC myself, and that it is not just a recent personal failure.

Maybe they are restricting available quality to save bandwidth like YouTube does.
