Yay! Thank you, thequietgirl! What a pleasant surprise!

In case it is not clear, this IS a 1:1 copy of the movie from the French PAL DVD. I think the "XViD" in the title is simply a mistake. Unless some online French site decides to stream the film in 1080p, this is likely to remain the best available version of the movie.

Wow! Thanks thequietgirl, I love your contributions.

Night, I already have the NTSC DVD. Do you notice any differences between the two? I understand a PAL DVD can have a slightly higher resolution. I am thinking of replacing the NTSC DVD.

I did not dig out the NTSC rip to look at it again, but I remember it was "adequate". The PAL looks better, as compared to my memory of the other. Quietgirl has fast upload speeds, so the PAL should download fast. Then look for yourself and make your own decision!

This is where you look to see if it's a remux (the .vob file from the disc saved as an .mkv without re-encoding). First the file is about the size of a disc. Then you see the video format is MPEG Video Version 2, or MPEG2 - the codec used in a .vob file. It would say xvid if this was just a repackaged .avi rip. You can also look at other things like the bitrate, which is in line with DVD video sources. Someone just mislabeled the file. That's all.

Thank you thequietgirl for this release! The DVD has gotten a bit too expensive. :D

My fault. It's my first "rip"/remux ever... Didn't know how to name it and just tried to imitate other file titles... Sorry!
Hope you all enjoy the release, haven't checked the original one but Night said it should look a lot better!

Don't worry about it. You contributed, that's what matters. File names are easy to correct.

A remux is when you save a .vob (DVD) or .m2ts file (bluray) in .mkv format without re-encoding video or audio. This is a fast process. You're just opening a file in a piece of editing software and re-saving it as an .mkv. When you re-encode (a much slower process) from either DVD or bluray it's a rip. Those 8 GB or so bluray movies you see everywhere are rips. If a file is over 20 GB it's almost certainly a remux. Mislabeled files are pretty common though.

Thank you again for all the new movies and upgrades, thequietgirl. Glad to have you around!

Night and deadman, I appreciate learning the ways to read video specifications. Grabbing the PAL DVD now.

For remux always try to load mpls file because it contains the info about multiple m2ts files + chapter file.
