I know I have encountered some DVDs aimed at an English-speaking audience that sometimes identify the French audio as "PARISIAN French". (With English subtitles.) So I wondered if it was REALLY that different. I guess it is only difficult to understand for U.S.Americans who took high school French!

Thank you, I like learning about the varieties of different languages. I know I need English subtitles for certain regional British English accents or I am lost.

Thank you for the explanation, DaveTheBoss. I also enjoy learning about language variations from different countries and regional variations. Being closer to Canada than France, I meet people from Quebec slightly more frequently than France. It's a little funny, because, similar to your recollection of Quebecoise, when I try to speak with the Canadians, they have wanted to teach me the Quebec way to say certain words and phrases, and say that what I've learned sounds European. (which also leads to one of my favorite puns of all time)

For further information regarding this, see Night's and my adventures with the short film Is it the design on the wrapper?

Do you know why they say it's European?

Spoiler:

'Cause you're a-peein'!

Yeah, it works better when you/they have to pee.

Here's a link to good usage of the pun, likely from a tv show you don't like. YT link timed to the 47-second mark.

Back on topic, I vaguely recall this movie, Grace is Gone, but I never saw it. It comes from a time when I would have rented it on DVD if I had known more about the plot. It looks like a heartwarming little movie. Thanks for bumping it up.
