LOL! Believe me if that were the case I would've had a greater selection. I just don't have the patience to use emule. I don't know how you guys do it because all past attempts on my part were too frustrating. If its one thing I wanted to do was to convince all of you to start using usenet and start a new revolution of sorts. Perhaps I'll start things off and post to the lostmovies group. Although there is some conflict since I do sell movies, but I probably still should at least on a limited basis. If and when I do I'll certainly announce here.sprocket wrote:...or it could be the other way round.

The big advantage of ed2k (eMule) is the longevity of the files. Every other method, usenet, torrent, rapidshare (unless you have a premium account) has the files available for a few days/weeks after which the files are pretty much dead. ed2k, on the other hand, has files that have been around for years. Unless a user physically deletes/ moves the files from the shared folders, they are still available. Even if one source is available, you can feel confident that you'll eventually get the file if you stay connected long enough. Some files have taken me over 2 months to download, but I did get them.
Another advantage is the availability of rare files, content that is just not available elsewhere.
Add to that stability and error correction and you get some idea of why we swear by it. Sure, it's not perfect, but what is? IMO, out of all the available options, it is the best we've got.

I will happily wait 6 months for a film, especially if it’s very rare.
Hell, I was queued for at least 8 months for piccole labbra before it became fully sourced.
Call me crazy, but half the fun is in the waiting... wondering just how good the film will be.
The anticlimax is often after the film is complete, when you realise it wasn’t as good as expected.

I hope I don't annoy anyone with this, but if you have a fairly consistent community of posters couldn't the same effect be created for usenet? I realize that usenet posts are good for only a few months, but if anything was ever needed again, it could be requested again from a member of the community who in theory should be happy to oblige. I can't even wrap my mind around 8 months. And having waited so long, do you have any desire now to put it up on usenet and make it available for someone else who wouldn't have to wait as long. Just curious.

Not really no.And having waited so long, do you have any desire now to put it up on usenet and make it available for someone else who wouldn't have to wait as long. Just curious
If they want the film as badly as I did, they can wait 8 months too!!
If they cant wait, they cant really want it very much.
Besides, it can be downloaded much much faster now its complete on eMule.

Usenet (and particularly a.b.m.thelostmovies) is a wonderful resource, and there is already a lot of cross-pollenization between there and here. There are lots of limitations to usenet, though. For one thing, many (most?) ISPs no longer offer full free feeds, or limit downloads to 1Gb or 2GB a month. Most ISPs also have ever lower retention due to the increasing traffic, so that the possible few months of post history is in reality a few days. That means a premium account is required and the cost for that adds up over time. You also have the difficulty of finding what you are looking for... the best usenet indexing service I know of is newzbin, and it's great, but that costs money too. Usenet is also a little tricky to learn (newsreaders, rars, etc) at places other than Easynews.schooldaysdvd wrote:I hope I don't annoy anyone with this, but if you have a fairly consistent community of posters couldn't the same effect be created for usenet? And yes, if I have waited a long time for a file on eMule I have no problem posting it for others on usenet. What good does it do me to keep it to myself? It might prompt someone else who has a better copy to post it, plus it's insurance sort of if I ever have a disk crash. I have posted before, though not since I found FLM. Hopefully soon I will get a premium provider. Maybe that will be a project for me this weekend when/if FLM is shut off due to bandwith, heh.

That's hysterical. Ok, now that I've heard the horror stories of 8 months, what is the average time to download a 1 CD movie (700-800mb) assuming that it has a reasonable amount of sharers.Debaser wrote:Not really no.And having waited so long, do you have any desire now to put it up on usenet and make it available for someone else who wouldn't have to wait as long. I use newshosting.com and newsbin pro for my usenet service and have found it to be very useful. I pay $19/month and get 70 day retention although I could pay a little bit more and get about 120 days retention. Well worth it for me considering that even on a slower DSL connection I can get a 1 CD movie in about 40 minutes, and an entire DVD in about 2-3 hours.
Anyway all of this just gave me an idea as maybe I will start posting limitedly on usenet with my site url on the post subject for advertising purposes. Any thoughts?

It can vary enormously, but I would imagine on average a couple of days.what is the average time to download a 1 CD movie (700-800mb) assuming that it has a reasonable amount of sharers.
Sometimes I can dl a film in a few hours from emule.
