Be advised, it is
Spoiler:

a fairly good supernatural drama
with high production values and a beautiful cinematography and yes, Amelia is
Spoiler:

in every episode
, but it's kinda SFW and she's the only OT character in there.
Spoiler:

She has good action scenes, though.

I can't keep up with abbreviation slang anymore,
is that "Safe For Work" or "So Freakin' What"?

I'm pretty sure he means Safe For Work - the girl has decent screen time, but nothing especially revealing.

Hahah, I think Triela's SFW could go either way. "Well, Amelia is one of the main characters, sfw-- just enjoy it already!"

Yeah, even the R-rated movies on the larger streaming sites don't often go into NSFW territory, and it seems they're trying to play it safe right now.

It's good to know that Jeanne is only meant to be taken lightly, even if it deals with critical moments in history. Sorta like that one movie where where that director made an offbeat, historical civil war movie, with leading generals cast as Charlie Chaplin and the Three Stooges, with musical numbers on the side (which country's civil wars? any one!). And then followed it up with that historical romp that took place during the "Popular Crusade" of 1212, with some characters also cast as younger children who have visions (oh wait, maybe this is actually how it happened? i dunno, i think there were some muppets cast as well, also with musical numbers).

The movie 300 was about an actual event, The Battle of Thermopylae. But the demon king Xerxes and his mutant hordes going up against 300 superhuman Spartan warriors who could dodge arrows in slow motion bullet time like Neo ... I'm pretty sure some historical accuracy was sacrificed in the name of entertainment. I'm also pretty sure Inglourious Basterds wasn't a true story about World War II. If you counted up all the period films that took serious liberties with historical fact the list would be long and include some really great movies.

I think it goes without saying, if your knowledge of history comes entirely from cinema you should go back to school. Right now!

This is such a good point. Were there Greeks complaining about that one? Or were they enjoying the spectacle?

Anyhoo, the movie probably is about what was Jeanne like as a child, and what effed her up so badly she wanted to be a martyr??? It's not normal behaviour. Movie is just your basic Freudian explorative expedition: "Now, zell me about zee chaithood... "

P.S. yes, I meant it as "Safe for work". No mystery there.

I'll bet some wouldn't mind the Sexy Whore Edition.

Nah. And her name is Amelie
What you changing her name on me now? :D ;) ;) I think I'll give this reimagining of the French Revolution a try, hopefully tonight.

Good example with 300 and Inglorious Basterds. Honestly, I don't mind when liberties are taken like this. Others that are likely candidates are Amadeus and Shakespeare in Love, which I probably enjoyed more for going off course. Almost as much fun is Records of Ragnarok, where historical and mythical figures from history are pitted in battle tournament style with the worldwide mythological pantheon of gods and goddess.

I prefer the various historical characters the way they are depicted in "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure", including Jeanne d'Arc.

I don't need my entertainment to be a dry recounting of history. I can read books.

Ahh Bill & Ted, a "most triumphant" choice, with a wholesome message, too:

Spoiler:

Be excellent to each other.
Spoiler:

I can totally imagine Night getting his his loosely-accurate historical drama fix by covertly rocking out to Epic Rap Battle of History every week.

I used to watch movies with my mother when I was little. And I would point things out to her. She would say it was a true story. And it just pissed me off.

To say anything in movies is based on a true story is being generous. To say it's in$pired by a true story is also very misleading. I've been accused of exaggerating on here, but that Tarintino reference is stretching it. Choose an obvious re-write of history as your example, cast A-models the average gullible movie-goer can look at for more than 10 minutes. Voila! You got yourself a cool story, bro.

Not everyone shares that mentality. Even fictional shit shoveled into the collective's mouths is gospel. It is and will always be.
