4662 and 4672 are (I think) the "standard" ports and aren't specific to any flavor of eMule. Some ISPs block or throttle those ports, along with other bandwidth-eaters. That's why you'd use non-standard ports. In my case, I'm using port 16047 for TCP and port 16062 for UDP.

yes, the little globe icon at the bottom left of the window is green (both arrows). Where would it tell me that eD2K or Kad is connected... I cannot see that in my window.

Just to explain the biggest reason why HighID affects download time and is worth figuring out...

If you have a HighID, other clients can connect to you when they they are ready to upload to you, i.e. when you have reached the top of their queue and they have bandwidth available. The upload begins immediately.

But if you have a LowID, the only time a transfer can start is when you connect to them, which eMule does every 29 minutes. So when you connect to them but they don't have bandwidth available for you at that moment, they say "try again later" and you try again in another 29 minutes... when you may get the same answer... which significantly slows the process.

Another factor: LowID-to-LowID transfers are possible but not reliable, so a LowID cuts down the number of sources you can download from.

At any given point half the users in my queue have LowIDs, not because half of all people have LowIDs, but because the HighID users get what they want and are gone while the LowIDers hang around a long time...

you have a version of emule i have not used so i can't help as much as others here can. i like the older versions myself. i currently use v0.48a.
i suggested you start this thread because i know several people here have a great amount of knowledge with emule and like to show it off. unfortunately they tend to over explain themselves and forget that all this tech stuff is like a foreign language to a newbie. this over explaining can also be good because those of us at an intermediate level also get to learn new tweaks.

if you are still having trouble after everyone here helps you on your current problem. try to install a different version and start over.

emule can take awhile but it is very rewarding. all of us at FLM love its longevity that other p2p programs can't match

Thank you ForAnAngel, ptguardian and FLL - and everyone else who contributed to my LOW ID problems. As someone mentioned, one just has to work with all the tools and advice and hope for the best.

Last night I finally figured out the Simple Port Forwarding application and managed to forward the two ports (numbers suggested here - 16047 and 16062). It's now working amazingly well... No more LowID messages; a much, much quicker connection to the servers, and downloads zinging along happily (even with a low number of sources); and two green arrows on the little Globe icon - meaning I am now connected with a HIGH ID!!!

There is a really good web page that explains the meaning of the eMule icons if you are using a newer version of eMule (like the eMule Plus v1.2e that I am currently using) - it is here

I did put a film into my public share folder to test if sharing is also ok.... maybe some FLM members can look for the file to see if it is available for sharing... please do a search for

Le Papillon [2002].rar

and let me know if you can see it. (By the way, that .rar file contains a nice copy of Le Papillon without the hardsubs on the screen, a nicely working sub file and pictures/info about that little gem of a film - if you download it you will need to use WinRar to unpack it, NOT WinZip!).

lol That made my day Since it literally took me months to figure it out (even with help) I didn't feel that comfortable trying to give someone else advice. But I know exactly what you went through. Trying to follow technical directions are almost as hard as following along a foreign movie without subtitles!
