720p is the display size and playback. YIFY team only uses a blu-ray source and has several steps to each encode, I have tried to get the steps but they are tight lipped about it. Recently I did a 1080p for Camp Nowhere that even though looks great on my LG it has compression artifacts in dark areas on my Samsung. Future encodes until I figure out their secrets will have to be bigger or smaller display size. One thing though is almost all my blu-ray rips sound better than YIFYs. They sacrifice multi channels and depth for better video in a smaller file. However YIFY team does it I am glad they do and there are now about a dozen consistent uploaders that do these great small size encodes. Great for us.

They use variable bit rate very effectively. Scenes that have low motion content are compressed very much, but scenes with high motion are compressed much less. The average bit rate remains low, so the file size stays low, but the peak bit rate can spike to several Mbps, so motion artefacts are not easily visible.

That's the case with 2-pass encoding. Mediainfo shows all the encoder options they use. I doubt they have any real secrets

I remember seeing a ~700MB file where the peak bitrate was a whopping 40Mbps.

i've stopped downloading yify stuff,the sound is far too low,i've got to crank the volume right up,and i sometimes forget to lower it,so when i play something else,i blast fuck out of my ears.

Is that 1080p from The.Possession.2012.Unrated.Cut.DVDRip.XviD-EXViD? that is also floating around. I have it here, but my emule has been broken since I bought a router. I can't figure out why.
