It was very normal for there to be that kind of Girl-old Man relationship movie.

Katya was born Dec. 13, 1966. IMDb lists the release date for the film as Oct. 30, 1978. Six weeks before her 12th birthday. The filming dates they list though are contradictory: Jul 1978 - Nov 1978. So what ... filming continued after it was released? Unlikely. Late spring/early summer filming dates are plausible if post production wasn't protracted. She says in that interview that she was 12 when she made the movie. This is also possible but if that release date is correct, and she was 12, then the DOB I quoted can't be right (although the 1964 date couldn't be either).

Until someone sorts out this mess of inconsistent dates, all we can say is that she was either 11 or 12. Her appearance certainly confirms that much. Especially when you look at how she develops in the next couple of years.

Her memory might not be perfect as to her actual age at the time. I know that I would struggle to actively recall whether I was 11 or 12 during some particular period. I have to stop and think "Now WHAT is my birthdate? And WHEN did that happen?"

Also, many children ROUND UP their ages or get super specific: "I am 11 years and 7 months old. I AM NOT ONLY ELEVEN! I AM NOT A LITTLE CHILD ANYMORE!" So if she thought of herself as 12 at the time, that is probably how she would remember it.

I don't think it is necessarily applicable here, but different cultures calculate ages differently. In some of them, someone who is older than 11 is considered 12 and not only 11 or 11 years x months. (In the first year of their life they are considered "1".) Also I remember reading that Korean culture has THREE different ways of calculating ages which makes for sometimes big differences depending on what month they were born. (Sorry, don't ask me to find a link: this WAS awhile ago...)

So as a wise old man once said, you could say that her age claim is true "from a certain point of view". :D

It appears this interview was conducted around the time, or shortly after, Nana (1983) was released. So, age 16. That's definitely true about kids. They'll say they're ten when they're 9 1/2, their parents will correct them, but from their point of view it's close enough to count. That can affect how you remember things years later. Especially since we're only talking a few months difference here.

Thanks deadman, I may have been the one who added that incorrect end of filming date on imdb.
I did some more research and here's what I found.

1) The release date (in Spain) of 10/30/1978 should be correct, it's the one reported by the 'Enciclopedia del cine español'. (google books id=4dYaAQAAIAAJ)

2) Regarding the filming dates, there are two articles in the Italian newspaper 'La Stampa' (the first from July 1978 and the second from November 1978) which say that Pierre Clementi was finishing the last scenes of the film. The second article probably says something wrong. In case of doubt and to respect logic, I had imdb change the end of filming date. Now you will see the date as July 1978.

3) Regarding Katya's birthdate, if it is certain that she was born in 1966, I am not sure that the exact date of birth is December 13. As you can see, on Imdb there is only the year, while on Wikipedia as a source for the date of December 13th there is a Finnish site (!) My opinion is that her date of birth is a few months earlier (after March 1966 anyway), so as to make the age of 12 consistent with the date of filming.

Thank you for specifying this information, as I was not sure if it might be an interview many years later in adulthood. The interview date might have already been posted in this insanely long thread, but I could not bring myself to scroll through the thread to find it!

I contradict myself because the date of December 13 is the one reported in the official US data, so it is probably correct.

In short, I also agree that she was 11 years old during the filming, even if she said she was 12.

This is Katya in 2017:

How many sources are there for this file?

i think she was 11 as well, the only way she would be 12 i think is if it was a short movie. To make movies you have to consider all the add and on ie music and special effects like the opening scene. Just not to sure how hard it was to put writing on a film with the stars names on it and stuff, and just spending time on the cutting room floor; like any other movie. The one thing I have come to realize is that you can never determine the age of a actress by her body an example of this would be Katja Bienert. I do think it would be interesting to see a remade version of this movie but something tells me it would NOT be as good as the O.G.
