vidman49, you know it is just as easy to adjust the subtitles permanently using Subtitle Workshop - just load the subtitle, press ctrl+a to select them all, then press either ctrl+shift+h to add 100ms or shift+ctrl+n to subtract 100ms. Press and hold to make large duration changes. Now 'save' and you're done.

THANKS! Didn't realize it was that easy. I downloaded subtitle workshop about 6 months ago and opened it - got a little intimidated and have never used it.

2 other ways to fix subtitles.
First I find have the files like:
filmname.mkv
filmname.srt
Play in VLC and subtitles will autoplay with film.

If timing is out. rename srt file like ilmname.srt (so Subtitle Workshop doesnt try and play the film).
Edit - Timings - Set Delay. Here you can + / - any amount of time. Rename the file back to filmname.srt. Play in VLC again. Repeat until perfect.

More advanced. Ie. if even after adjusting for the first subtitle the subtitles drift out of sync then use the:
Edit - Timings - Adjust - Adjust subtitles to set the FIRST / LAST subtitle line - though sometimes there's lyrics or credits so you

You can also open subtitles in "Subtitle edit" another free software and autofix any subtitles that overlap, or vanish too quickly. It does a clever characters/second so you know the speed. You can adjust easily so they don't overlap .
