cropping and heavy DNR
but it is the fate of every Indian movie shot on film.

Thank you, Gag! This one is new to me. I read that it is an adaptation of "The Exorcist" story.

I expect that the cropping is just the original theatrical presentation? Overuse of DNR has plagued many non-Indian movies as well. Note to all: Gag's video includes optional English text subtitles.

nah the original ratio was 1.33:1.
Crop is 16:9(1.78:1) for modern TVs, If it was a widescreen movie the ratio would have been like 2.2:1 and it would say cinemascope on the certificate like this.

Dammit! That was the other possibility I was hoping was NOT the case. On the old TVs I was irritated by Cinemascope movies cropped on the sides to 4:3 and was happy in the rare cases I could get them wider in letterbox. With the modern TVs I am irritated by 4:3 originals cropped on the top and bottom to 16:9. Grrrr. But considering I have not seen the original for this movie, I might not notice the difference -- unless someone gets their head cropped off. I can see the DNR you warned about but it is nowhere near as bad as I had feared. I think I shall be pleased with this, so thank you again.

I confess I never read the Censor certificate for Indian (or U.K.) movies and did not realize they actually had useful information on them!
