Are you using AI?
I would agree to colourise the black and white but I know there will be many opponents who don't want the image to be altered.
Yes, I think it is always important to keep the original material because the technology is constantly iterating and improving.
But in comparison, I prefer to appreciate the best restoration that can be done in any era.

@E9A7F3bD:
You only posted screenshots. It would be intersting how it looks, when the pictures are moving.
I've tried several colorize programs including Photoshop's AI. When the the videos were playing, the colors flickered and changed their color tone all the time (...e.g. water from blue to brown). All the programs I used never gave me satisfying results. So I gave up.

I never said I fixed the full movie. I know its current limitations, like you mentioned.
That is why I expressed my expectations in the video field in the comment.
The screenshots is just a preview and attempt about future technology, and it is still fun to appreciate the results of it, that's why I shared them. I'm sorry I may have created the wrong expectations.
PS. "@" not working in this phpBB program, I won't get "notifications" and actually I might not read this post if I didn't see it unexpectedly.

Somehow I messed up the aspect ratio a bit.

And I wasn't satisfied with the color settings.

You can replace your downloaded file if you want.
The subtitles are 99% finished...

WETA did colour correction on a WWI trenches film. They even got photos of old uniforms so they could make sure the colours were right - because I think you could get the wrong hue if you don't know what you're doing. I've seen a few youtube videos for a guy operating a full professional edit suite where he experimented with colour correcting with great results. I think there's still a lot of user art to it. How do you know if a dress that's light grey is pale yellow or pale blue - unless onset photos and stuff like that.

It was necessary to revise some parts again, but the subtitles are finally finished. They turned out really great!
This has been a co-work between pillowbaker and me. Thank you so much for your help and time!

Thank you, ghost, for your patience and enthusiastic responses.
To anyone reading, I recommend watching this movie, even if have already [edit: even if *you have already], with the fully edited subtitles. The film is absorbing and impactful as any of the great sad films here, and Elitza gets most of the screentime. Despite all of the difficulties around her, I can't help but adore her!
Grab the subs from above!

I totally agree to your words, pillowbaker.
