Thanks again. Is there any way to check my fixed ip address? I am confused now, as I have been given 3 different ones.

When I created a static ip it was 192.168.1.140
When I entered some information using "portforward" which said it worked out your ip based on these I was given a different number (which I can't remember cos I have since changed it)

When I used that link you sent me, about my specific router, and selected firmware 1.40 and over I copied the table exactly and the ip it gave was 192.168.1.3

Therefore in the table I now have 2 different ips listed, the first 2 columns are ip 192.168.1.140, and then the other 3 I just entered the info from the info given for my router including the ip of 192.168.1.3

Obviously they shouldn't be different ips, now I am unsure which one to use (although I do know that the static ip I created was 192.168.1.140)

Also when I enter the command ipconfig /all some info flashes up, but goes off before I can read it.

The first 2 columns tccp 4665 udp 4675 are the same both in router forwarding column and emule (under client port) so I think this is correct.

I think the main problem now is that I am unsure of the ip I should be using, as I keep being given different ones. If there is a way of checking which ip i have, and so I know which one to enter for all the 5 columns in port forwarding it may well fix it. Looking back now i'm not sure whether the 192.168.1.3 is correct I only entered it because it was the information given in the box I copied and pasted a couple of posts ago

Further to add to the confusion when I click on my network places and select my router under properties it lists the device address as http://192.168.1.1:5678/index.htm

Then when I double click on my router, and enter admin to get into the setup options for my router my lan ip address is given as 192.168.1.1(which I think is just the default for anyone who buys this router) This is also the same page which has "obtain an ip automatically" selected as default. Do I need to change this to static ip? and then find out/confirm what my static ip is? (I was certain it was 192.168.1.140 but now I am getting a little confused)

ipconfig is a command-line utility, so open up a command prompt (I think Windows has a shortcut to one under Start->All Programs->Accessories but you can easily open one with Start->Run... and type "cmd" (without the quotes).

ipconfig /all will tell you your ip address (make sure you are looking at the proper adapter for your network connection if more than one is shown). Also make sure "Dhcp Enabled" is set to no, i.e. it's a static IP address.

If things still scroll too far add |more to the end of the command, it will stop after each page.

This is whyy it is not working, you have to think in terms of the fact that what you are configuring on the router, MUSTmatch what you have configured for the client. Thenumbers are arbitary, the reason it sugggests 192.168.1.3 is on the assumption you MAY have more than one networking device therefore :-

192.168.1.1 Router (aka Gateway) by default - leave this
192.168.1.2 Second network device
192.168.1.3 First client - you must configure all of the port forwarding on the router to this address.

On your machine, right click on the network icon on desktop, and go properties. Select your network connection and right click select properties. Click on the TCP/IP in the list of resources and again click the button properties. Now you have the option to put in your IP address/subnet/gateway and optional DNS settings (you can leave these as automatic or put as I have, your router IP - this is SLIGHTLY more efficient - in your case configure 192.168.1.1 for DNS).
Now put the following :-
IP address 192.168.1.3
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 192.168.1.1

You need no other settings (but you should already have disabled NETBIOS over TCP/IP - go to advanced tab then WINS settings).

You may have to reboot your computer once these settings are saved - good idea anyway as this clears any stale cached entries.

Now if you open a command prompt and type IPconfig /all - you should find that the settings you have made are reflected here in the output - good. Now you are good to go, open emule and selec the log tab, watch the entries carefully as they will tell you the status of your connection, client, shared files etc. Now select a server (say any Big Bang or Donkey server), and click connect - check the log, you should see connected to x server with High/Lowid. This is as much as I can tell you - if you follow this it MUST work unless you have afirewall blocking. Once you have Highid, you can mess with the firewall settings knowing that by turning it off, you can always get Highid.

When clicking on networkd places and finding my router right clicking on properties only brings up a general tab, I have a screenshot of this if there is a way to send it.

Also have screeshots of the info I got when entering ipconfigall/ the opening page of my router (setup) and my current entries on port forwarding in each column.

When putting in ipconfig/all the ip address I am given is again different to all the others I have mentioned here, is this the ip address I should be entering on the port forward page for my router?

It is possible if I change this ip to all my 5 columns in port forwarding (instead of 192.168.1.3) it may work. If not I can send you the various screenshots for you to check if there is a way of getting them to you

One thing I do remember is that "Dhcp Enabled" is set to no.

Don't disable DHCP in the router.

Also, ask your ISP for the IP addresses of the primary DNS and secondary DNS. and put those in your network connection tcpip properties instead of the router's IP.

Aside from rebooting the computer, good idea to switch the router off then back on after applying changes.

You are also confused (I think) about what is your router and what is your network interface card (NIC).

The NIC is inside your PC; you get into its properties by clicking the network connection icon in the system tray or through the network connections folder. Select tcpip properties here and set your internal IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS.

The router properties you get into by typing 192.168.1.1 in your browser address box. Here you set up port forwarding.

I changed my ip address to what it showed me when using ipconfig/all and then when clicking on my connection noticed that certain boxes were not ticked including FTP, POP3 and SMTP.

I ticked the boxes, turned off the router, restarted my computer and then restarted emule. It worked

Congrats! Lots of people helped me when I was starting out. Nice to be able to give something back.

Now that everything is running, note down or take screenshots of your settings so you can get back if necessary. Most routers have options to export and import settings, use them.

Also, take a backup of your eMule\config folder at regular intervals. This contains files that establish your identity - good for maintaining credits. This means that when you upload something to someone, they remember it and when you download something from them, your turn comes faster.
