Edit: it lets me open the link creator but not the main app
Edit 2: I uninstalled Emule and reinstalled it and i can open the app now... weird that i couldn't the first time

I use 50a, and I think ghost does too. My computer is 64-bit and ghost's rivals the Pentagon's. It really does not matter what version you use. If you choose a version and there are different installers for 32-bit computer vs 64-bit, type System in your computer's Search bar and that part of Control Panel will tell you what your computer is.
I don't understand exactly your installation problem but I am glad you figured it out.

Sorry, what!?
64 or 32 bit... I never cared about that. Yes I still use v0.50a.
I never used the installer for eMule. I just unpacked the zip file into a folder and clicked on the emule.exe.
@Moonee: I'm glad it is working for you now.

We know your 'puter be super-amazing because of all the video processing you do. Since my government watched "Wargames" in the 80's they decided they needed better computers to keep up with all the gamer hackers trying to get in. Your computer still rivals theirs!

I am sure your computer is 64-bit. I was just saying that even with your advanced computer setup you are still using the older eMule, because the barely newer versions may have some more features but the old and reliable still works.
I did not even parse "installer" vs zip file, but now that you mention it I think I used the zip file too...

Actually, my laptop is a cheap and not very powerful laptop
Will it still run emule fine regardless of if it's powerful or not

Now I got it.
I think all computers from the last years are x64, but are there 2 versions of emule?

So i did a port test and this is what i get
Starting TCP connection test...
TCP test failed! UDP test will not be performed.
What are the disadvantages of the test failing?
Like does it matter that much if the test fails?

Yes I think all newer computers are x64; I think it is just the different "installers" are made for x32 vs x64, and may be just for the later mod versions of 60 and 70. Your installation by just using the zip file I THINK avoids that issue. (Mimzy?)

Yes, very easilly. Emule does not take much processing power. Also the last OFFICIAL update to the software (v0.50a) was in 2010!

You will be limited to LowID, like many others who use emule. I just did the test myself, and those are the results that I got. I download all the time from sharers who have HighID. (Ghost, deadman, jezevex, pillowbaker, Skalman ... er I can't keep track of all of them anymore ...) I can also upload to those with HighID. The only problem comes in sharing between two people with LowID.
Some people get HighID without any effort. Some people get HighID by changing router settings. I think maybe it is more common now to use a limited number of VPN services that offer port forwarding in order to get HighID. So if you "only" have LowID don't worry about it. What is important is that your Servers tab &/or lower right of the emule client indicates that you are Connected to ed2k and Connected to Kad. If the arrows on the globe icon are yellow that is good; if green that is better. Only red is bad, and if that is so we can try to fix it.

Did you forward the ports in your router? You have to do this to get a high ID.

does emule needs to be connected for the download to keep going?
Like for example: If i download an ed2k link from one of the REL threads and i disconnect from emule, will the download stop until i turn emule back on?
