I was able to play the VOBs using "Media Player" although you need to override the file type filter. I doubt it can play a DVD folder, though.

A big advantage of media players like VLC and MPC is that they come bundled with their own codecs so you don't need to install anything else.

Media Player, by contrast, is using the codecs installed in the operating system, and you'd need to install additional codecs to play some of the videos shared on FLM. I actually have installed a separate codec pack which might be why my "Media Player" even plays the file on my PC.
