Some of the reasons we use eMule is because we don't have to intentionally upload files to someplace, we simply put them in a folder on our hard drives and let people come get them. It's simple, easy, and doesn't require the sharer to make a big effort. Because it's so easy and effort-free, files tend to stay available a long, long time - there are films listed on FLM that have been shared for over a decade. Most file services and places like UseNet delete files relatively quickly and if you want a reshare, someone has to take the time and effort to re-upload them a second time.

If your antivirus is too aggressive, you need to change its settings or get a different antivirus. eMule, torrents, and many other P2P programs have been around for a long time and antivirus and firewall programs can be set to accommodate them. I know there might be reasons you're not allowed to change the settings but it's probably the only way - someone might upload to a file sharing site, but I wouldn't count on it.
