I have used Norton Internet Security (combo firewall and antivirus) since 2005, it has always had minor annoyances but in general has worked well for me. I pay less than $10 for it, because in the US early in the year there are rebate deals available if you are looking. I actually like NIS 2008 better than last year's, they fixed a couple of problems which affected me. I do agree it is bloated and steals CPU, but I turn off features I don't like which helps. I used a free Antivirus on another machine and it didn't seem to be so much better to convince mke to switch.

A little dangerous, if rmt has a direct connection to the modem (i.e. not through an external router) because people out there routinely and systematically probe whole address ranges for vulnerabilities, and even though the firewall might be off a short time there's a chance someone scans you at that point. NIS2008 turns off the builtin Windows firewall.
rmt, NIS2008 and Firefox work fine for me, but I have the stuff I don't feel I need turned off. Under "transaction security" I have Phishing Protection and Crimeware Protection turned off, and have Identity Safe not set up and the Firefox Norton toolbar off. I also never installed the free addons they give you for parental controls and anti-spam. Given that all of those interact with the browser they are candidates for this problem, so try turning them off if they are on and see if that makes a difference.

Well, I have done all that has been suggested and still the same.
Hopefully FLL you have some more suggestions for me, I would like to get this rectified and I am sure people are probably sick of me talking about this subject.
Anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

ghost: maybe you could left align the preview and submit buttons for the quick reply section. Currently they are centre aligned and when a post is very wide, they are very far away from the actual text box. TIA.
