I've experienced this problem forever. Some people on the Internet seem to have solved it, but I think the best option is to either use a different media player or change the file container to MP4 (preferably without re-encoding)pillowbaker wrote: Wed Oct 25, 2023 12:26 am The pixeldrain file is an M2T file. Oddly, VLC will not play it for me, but Media Player plays it quite well. Anyone familiar with m2t files?

What process or software do you suggest? Also, will makemkv work on a file like this?DreamScape wrote: Wed Oct 25, 2023 1:04 amI've experienced this problem forever. I'd just use ffmpeg.pillowbaker wrote: Wed Oct 25, 2023 1:29 amWhat process or software do you suggest? So you would just use the command line in your Command Prompt, and you would modify the command line like so
[Code] Would the episode have to be in the same directory as ffmeg?

Re: [REL] Katie Morag (2013) TV Series
Thank you DreamScape, I think I figured it out. Who knew lossless conversion (which is what I hope I did) would be that easy. It did lose around 23 mb in filesize. Is this normal?
And thanks again to Stefan and your associates at rutracker for episode 6 in 1080p.

Re: [REL] Katie Morag (2013) TV Series
Thank you Stefan Duke - pillowbaker - DreamScape!
Once I hit pillowbaker's initial post on this episode, I went down the rabbit hole of reading about .m2t and related files. After I was tired of reading, I went on to seeing which of my GUI-format software would recontainer it (losslessly), and ultimately had success on my own. It does not surprise me that ffmpeg works perfectly. But I have used it in Command Line so little that I can not remember the option formats and would have to look them up.
A few questions answered:
VLC plays MTS, but a subtitle present with the same name will lock it up just as TS files do. Windows Media Player will play the original M2T but even though there is a subtitle playback option, I can not get it to play the subtitle.
Naturally DreamScape has the best suggestion of losslessly recontainering it to an easier-to-use format. I have noticed slightly smaller files sometimes when I do this. I think of it as a large man (like me) squeezing into a tighter pair of pants: the contents remain the same, although it appears smaller on the outside.
(TARDIS pants?)
Thanks again pillowbaker! I am heading to eMule to grab this one.

A few questions answered:
- .m2t was used in older HD camcorders https://fileinfo.com/extension/m2t
- VLC will play it if the extension is changed to .mts
- MakeMKV will NOT work on it
- Recontainering (losslessly) does sometimes produce a slightly smaller file

Re: [REL] Katie Morag (2013) TV Series
Hey thanks for the continued m2t information, Night. I came across some of the same info, cuz once I made my post in response to DreamScape, I immediately started researching. I discovered many variations of the command line for ffmeg, each of which claimed to be lossless conversion. Honestly, I got a little confused at that point.
I am curious if your GUI-based method results in a file the same size as the one that ffmeg created, 737.06mb. If it is the same size, I wonder if it is the same hash.
Windows Media Player may play the m2t file without the subtitles, but the program simply called "Media Player" (which came with windows for me) plays the m2t with the subtitles well enough. It does have noticeable issues with scrolling (jumping around on the duration bar). I was going to try using Windows Media Player, since regular Media Player worked well, but when I went to launch it, it wanted me to set up settings, one of which was "Make WMP the default player for all media files (recommended setting)", which you could accidentally click if you're not careful to select "custom settings" instead. So I stopped there.
Lol, tardis pants. "Wow, that large man looks smaller on the outside!"

m2t?? WTF! I never had a video fie with this file extension. I know m2ts (used in Blue-ray's) and mts and ts, but not m2t.
I think you can simply remux it using MKVToolnix or XmediaRecode. This would ne the easiest way, if you want avoid this command line thing.
BTW: MPC (my default player) plays it without any problem.

Yeah, during my research on the file type, many sources said they were used in HD camera recorders as well as bluray format.
The quality of the video was pretty damn good though. It definitely appears to be a natural 1080p, no upscale. So good, I want the rest of the series in the same quality now!
Does MPC (media player classic) require you to install any codec packs?

Very true. I misread the comment because I thought we were talking about m2ts! Glad my recommendation proved to be universalghost wrote: Wed Oct 25, 2023 7:59 pm m2t?? WTF! I never had a video fie with this file extension. I know m2ts (used in Blue-ray's) and mts and ts, but not m2t.
