That's why there are the terms PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), SAR (Storage Aspect Ratio), and DAR (Display Aspect Ratio). I'm sure you'll have seen them around

Maybe somewhere, without explanations. It's like the difference between GiB and GB: similar terms for close measurements that are not identical. With a "foot" and a "meter" there is at least no chance of confusing them!
