The 12 episodes took nearly a year to film, starting in September 2022 just after star Kerstin Linden turned 14. So it's not surprising in this day and age they weren't quite as explicit as the 1984 film.

I can just picture Ronja moving into a dorm that looks like a dungeon. And the scene where she goes into town, hits the local pub, and drinks several of the king's knights under the table.

The series covers all of the original source material. Maybe if Astrid Lindgren were still available to write it, they could continue. But I'm guessing she'd probably ask why - the story is finished. Or maybe not, maybe she'd come up with a new tale involving Ronja and Birk's daughter twenty years later. Lovis Ronjadotter: Warrior Girl of the Forest. What do you think?

Spoiler: Did medieval girls and boys have modern nylon swimwear? That's what it looks like from the screenshot. In 1984 Ronja bandaged the mauled mare with her loincloth, so they made an attempt to be period specific.

All the clothes in this show look to be period realistic; linen, wool, and leather, handmade with the irregularity of garments from the time rather than the machine perfection of modern clothing. You can see the hand cutting and stitching on almost everything the actors wear. So the production must have hired people to knit and stitch the wardrobe the way it would've been done in medieval times.

I wasn't sure if people back then wore underwear so I checked, and apparently they did. They had linen undergarments similar to boxer shorts. I think that's what Ronja has on in that picture, along with the light sweater-type garment she wore under the yellow smock. There would be no equivalent of a bra though. Corsets were worn by noble women but not your average country dweller.

They show this series dubbed in German on German TV over Christmas.

It's selective with the countries where it would be successful or among the most viewed, and it wouldn't make sense to publish it in the US; it would just be gathering dust.

It was available briefly on Netflix here in the US, in either English dubbed or original language with subtitles, but it's gone again.

Good thing we here at FLM don't have to rely on the whims of streaming providers for content!

You know what I mean. Yes, they have to produce the content. But we don't have to be bound by their decisions regarding when to make it available, which geographic areas get to see it at all, etc.
