18 GB is indeed a massive file!
I did my own BluRay-rip (more than 20 GB unreduced) only by conversion with MakeMKV and it looks crisp and detailed.
Seems as if the reduction to 18 GB was not appropriately done.
In my file the grain of the film is visible and depending on the reduction method this can lead to a noisy picture.
Can you upload frames with strong visible noise? I will upload the same frames then for comparison. Thanks!

Edit: I took a closer look and choose a frame at about 30:45. Yes, there is graphic noise.
It is too large to upload as attachment with unreduced quality, but it remembers strongly to the BluRay version of the second season of "Star Trek - The Next Generation" which had a lower quality than the other seasons.
In spite of this fact it is still much better than the DVD with 576i. The DVD presented a narrow Image between broad black stripes and had a real resolution of about 300 lines.
