Technically it would be a French film, it is directed by a Frenchman, the main actor is French.

Nevermind, the movie takes place in france i think (I always thought this film was completely made/filmed in the US)
Fun fact: Inside Leon's apartment, the scenes were filmed in France, but the exterior shots were filmed in NYC.

The director Luc Besson is French. Jean Reno is French/Spanish playing an Italian-American character. Natalie Portman is Israeli/American and has lived in France, and her character is a New Yorker. The movie takes place and was filmed in New York City with some interiors in France doubling for New York. The production money came from France and U.S. The language of the film is English.
