I acknowledge the artistic merit of this movie and the sincerity of those making it, but I hate it too and never want to see it again.

I personally defend these movies as a means of self expression and that's about it. The idea of a movie spreading awareness of a very obvious issue is a little goofy to me, personally. I'd be more likely to think it might spread unnecessary fear before anything else. But I do strongly believe in an artist's ability to display their experiences or internal expressions as accurately and unflinchingly as possible so long as no one is actually harmed in the process.

I just heard about this film in a youtube video so I came to read people's reactions, but hearing it described as a more messed up Hounddog means it probably isn't for me

I do enjoy nasty movies, but there has to be some meat on the bone that it would hold up well if some of the misery was removed. For example, Korean movie Lady Vengeance // Original title: Chinjeolhan geumjassi is one of my favorite movies ever and it is very somber and violent at times, but it is so beautifully shot I'd enjoy it if much of that was toned back.
I’ve never fully seen Hounddog but watched excerpts of the infamous rape scene and cinematically I didn’t find it that real/tough to watch, the film of this thread definitely is WAY MORE graphic and realistic in that regard. if I remember correctly Hounddog doesn’t show anything at all but it’s just some notices and blurry video for a couple seconds (maybe someone can confirm my blurry memory).

The scenes of this film here on the other hand look & come across very real, show all actors acting out the scenes and go on for minutes.

I could see many people especially some women just leaving the cinema during these scenes.

It might just be my age, but I notice I have a harder time even seeing the repercussions depending on how well it is acted. Especially if most of the movie is already the kid having a shitty, fucked up life. There is a moment where it slips into misery-porn to me. Although, ironically, La bouche de Jean-Pierre is one of my favorite movies I've found thanks to FLM and it is similarly grim, so honestly I don't know what the difference is.

Anyway I will probably cave and watch eventually tbh.
