With the FBI or other "morality watchdogs" taking note of everyone buying tickets? I don't see how they can make back their investment of time and money from just limited screenings unless they are really expensive tickets.

They wouldn't need to go to a movie screening and copy down license plates in the parking lot anymore. Tracking digital payment, cell phone location data, etc., would be enough. If they cared to bother. I mean, some people might not approve of the content but there's nothing illegal going on.

A simple transfer of a movie wouldn't be that expensive. But the time and money invested in a full restoration like this one - which would take work, no known copy of this film is undamaged - implies some method of getting your money back by marketing the result. This film has a cult following so a limited run Collector's Edition would probably sell out. I've got my eyes peeled. If I happen to see one available, I'll order immediately and let everyone know - a rip, remux, and full disc .iso will be up as soon as I can post them.

You are entirely correct! And that does not stop the morality watchdogs. There is nothing illegal about the photobooks by Jock Sturges or Sally Mann, but some people worked hard to chase them out of bookstores and (failed) to get them banned by the courts. Public places like movie theaters and bookstores (back when they still existed) are easier for self-appointed guardians to target than online sources. There is not a chance in h*** that I would go to a movie theater to watch "Child Bride" but I would watch it at home.

I own a copy of the BluRay and the DVD, so I just might buy a 4K copy too! That is the best that I could do to support their efforts.

Fun fact: During one of the swimming scenes, they had to use a double for 11 year old Shirley Mills because she didn't know how to swim

Shirley could swim, just not very well. You can see it in the close ups that are clearly her. Barely more than a dog paddle. The shots where Jennie is swimming athletically with good form ... that's Bernice.

I don't remember where I first read about it, but all that source said was that a new 4K restoration - distinct from the disc I bought - had been done. A proper one that got rid of the lines and brightness fluctuations. The 4K version exists as a Digital Cinema Package, or DCP, and has been screened a few times for various audiences but there are currently "no home viewing options" as they put it.

If they did one of those 3000 unit limited releases it would probably let them recover their costs (even make a small profit). Nothing's guaranteed but we may see it eventually.

It isn't new at all and it even doesn't use AI. "Normal" users don't know it. It's the world leading film restoration software.

Thank you for sharing. Technically I could have driven to NYC but there is no way I would have for a movie! The movie theaters in my neck of the woods would never show interesting movies like this, just the latest Marvel and Mission Impossible movies. The purple prose on that page is hilarious.

Most lascivious, really? Their movie viewing is obviously limited.
They should include "How to Take a Bath" as a BluRay bonus feature when they upgrade to 4K.

But the good news is that on the same page it says:

Every single day I see BluRays that I have now being upgraded to 4K disks. So there is at least a reasonable chance that this will too, if the BluRay sold well enough for them.

It's a blessing when you happen to meet the right people who have immense expertise. I couldn't have gotten started with the software on my own. It's very complex.

I couldn't remove all the scratches because of the heavy damage of the source footage, but it looks a lot bettter.
