Most of us, that talk here, do not care, cause we are clean, or law enforcement (I think we all have our suspicions, whether admin or members?) but if we are not clean, then how does one hide the ip on emule? Maybe this is why we don't get a lot of posters? They are afraid. Is there a way that is safer then just a proxy? Does tor work on emule?

I think the US is wondering what will happen in the vote next month (Feb 2015 by FCC) on (Govt regulation of the Internet under "Net Neutrality"). We all know cops monitor this board, but how can we keep it safe 'for the ab "normal" people? The US has a lot to do with control. I hope there is some answers on keeping safe?

Some of us are former LE and know the lies that this Neutrality is for "our good" and is not just a power grab for control of the internet. I am looking for real solutions to our safety by the admins who are responsible for this board? Does anyone have any suggestions? Is emule safe?

In theory, yes, but in practice you'd get a lowID, no KAD. If you find any sources at all, it is slow as hell. Besides, Tor may give you a false sense of security. FBI can easily crack it if you don't use it correctly.

The rule of thumb is to not share movies that have been released in your own country within last 12 months, especially by major studios. And to not share OT clips and other material that could be interpreted wrongly. The rest is quite safe.

Especially don't post modern music videos,the powerful organisations hate anyone posting newish videos with young teens pouting and posing to shite music.

eMule is pathetic with proxies. Finding a proxy that allows a decent throughput, even for direct downloads, is becoming quite difficult.

File sharing will continue to exist in some form or other - stricter policing just pushes things further underground.

We are at risk on two fronts here. Pir@cy, and under@ge content. Sticking to what's listed on IMDB, etc. seems like a good plan for the second part. mimzy and starfish have already covered the first.

A first step should be to start using non-obvious names. eMule is not very good at this - it allows anyone to change the name without affecting the filehash, so it takes just one person to let the cat out of the bag. If we can all agree to stick to naming conventions that make little sense to others, that's a start.

Name mangling is IMO annoying and not really useful. It does not help if you found the file using e-mule search. Even if you got the file from torrent, it is very likely that someone else is sharing it independently. Nobody wants to archive a file with an obfuscated name, so someone will rename it sooner or later.

I don't really think we have much to worry about. Piracy is a risk when sharing new and popular movies, which is usually the opposite we do. And everything we have is legal (except Maladolescenza). Even if LEA is monitoring this board (which I doubt), there is not much they can do.
