On 1 December 2023, significant changes will be made to the operation of the Ulož.to Disk and PINKfile.cz cloud storage services. The changes are a forced response to the incoming European legislation known as the DSA.
From Friday 1 December 2023, cloud storage services will only be available to registered users. They will be able to handle only the files they uploaded to the storage. Files cannot be shared publicly, even by link. Of course, users don't have to worry about losing any of their personal files. Everything on the cloud storage remains, but the content will only be accessible to users who have uploaded it to the storage themselves.
If paying users are not interested in continuing to use the service under the new terms, they can terminate their accounts or switch to the FREE plan. In this case, previously purchased Data Packages or subscriptions may also be refunded, in proportion to their usage.

Translated to English:
Uloz.to fundamentally changes the way it works in response to European DSA legislation
From 1 December 2023, there will be significant changes in the functioning of the Uloz.to Disk cloud storage. The changes are a response to upcoming European legislation known as DSA. Cloud storage users will continue to be able to download only files that they have uploaded to the storage themselves.

"We have always carefully ensured that the operation of Uloz.to is in accordance with valid Czech and European legislation. This was repeatedly confirmed by court rulings in disputes, which were often purposefully conducted against us. In order to continue to meet all legal criteria in the future, especially in connection with the new European legislation, we are introducing significant changes to the functioning of the cloud storage Uloz.to Disk from 1 December 2023," explains Jan Karabina, CEO of Cloud Platforms, which operates Uloz.to.

The changes in the functioning of Uloz.to will be quite fundamental. Uloz.to Disk cloud storage services will only be accessible to registered users from Friday 1 December 2023. They will only be able to upload files that they have uploaded to the storage. It will not be possible to share the files to the public or to an address via a link. Of course, users don't have to worry about losing their own files. Everything remains in the cloud storage, but the content will be accessible only to those users who uploaded it to the storage. If, under the new conditions, paying users are not interested in continuing to use the service, they can terminate their accounts or convert to the free version. In this case, the remaining subscription or credits will be returned to them.

The changes only concern Uloz.to Disk cloud storage. The Uloz.to LIVE streaming service is regulated by other legislation (e.g. under the supervision of RRTV) and will continue to operate without changes.

DSA (Digital Services Act)
Groundbreaking Regulation 2022/2065 on the single market for digital services and amending Directive 2000/31/EC (Digital Services Regulation), English. The Digital Services Act ("DSA") comprehensively regulates the digital services sector within the EU and aims to ensure the proper functioning of the single market, maintain a safe online environment and protect the fundamental rights of users. The DSA sets rules and obligations for digital services that act as intermediaries, i.e. connecting users to goods, services and content. This is the entire spectrum of digital services, from services providing network infrastructure, through web hosting to online platforms such as social networks or Internet marketplaces. Specific rules for individual subjects are designed asymmetrically. Services with greater social and economic impact must therefore meet stricter conditions.

All good things

After all that we've being saying, that uloz has been a great resource for long-term storing your files. Which is still true, I suppose, but you can't share them anymore.

I'll have to learn to deal with the mega restrictions and possibly look into what is being used at TNT for now.

There are so many options used there which presumably (?) allow free accounts for file sharing, so we are not helpless yet. How long the files remain available, I do not know. I know that TNT reshares are often required, so it is not "forever".

FYI, I was privately (PM) notified about this issue from another FLM/TNT member, where there is a posting about the news. The only thing that *I* knew was that I was unable to connect at all to ulozto due to Cloudflare blocking, which I am experiencing again. I have not tried shutting off my VPN, but right now they legitimately may actually have their servers overwhelmed with people attempting to retrieve files.

What is this EU law? Did it have a bunch of copyright enforcing anti-piracy poison pills buried in it, or is there some other reason why uloz is doing this?

File hosting companies need to start siting their servers in countries (Belize for example) which do not enforce the DMCA or other international corporate sponsored copyright legislation. I'd be willing to pay a reasonable monthly subscription fee if I didn't have strict traffic or storage limits and could be sure - as sure as one can be anyway - that my files would remain available for years to come.

You don't necessarily have to move to another country. Just your servers. And by incorporating there as well, you can't be sued where those irritating laws are enforced.

This is infuriating. All my zippyshare links died when they abruptly shut down, I started replacing them with uloz links and now they abruptly shut down. I'm waiting for MEGA to go next. uloz had such an extensive library of content that there's literally no way to nab everything of interest in time.

It's possible Uloz is just placing the blame on the EU out of convenience as they cut costs. Remember, they went into foreclosure back in March.

That's really very sad news about uloz. :( The files there really almost stayed forever.
I don't know a similar filehoster. And if: you never can be sure that the same won't happen again.

Well, maybe at least this tragedy will encourage some people to use eMule. ;)
