How to get the subs out with ffmpeg??

See the link below. I hope you can still download it. I tried to use FFmpeg command line to get the subtitle out, but instead, i could only do it with Subtitle Express. This is not desirable to me, because i've created a context menu item which can extract the subtitle when right-click the filename in File Explorer (actually, Win Commander, but same diff) 8-)

Can anyone download "Dune (1984) 2h57m7s" and see if you also fail to extract the .SRT subs with FFmpeg?
Thanks.

If you succeeded in getting the subtitle with one method, then what does it matter that another method does not work?

Because the other method is faster and less cpu taxing and less memory eating?

Why don't you just use MKVExtractGUI - takes about 30 seconds. It's hardly intenive processing - it's not Topaz's 10-48 hours (depending on settings and film length)!

sorry, i thought the problem was with the specific file and not the method. once you have the subtitle, there is no need to do it again.

I also use MKVExtractGUI often for this task, unless it's an MP4, then SubtitleEdit is quicker.

if one sets up FFmpeg to work from the context menu, then that is always quickest.

My question was just: Can you also not extract the subs with FFMpeg?
Because if you can, then it must be me.
If you can not, it might be the file itself.
I wasn't looking for OTHER methods to extracts these subs. I already saw Dune 84

Well, it is quickest when it works. I think the uloz link said the subs were encoded with exif, so I guess they would not extract normally. If there are addional options to use with ffmpeg to get them, great! Sorry I don't know what.

Now I understand your question: your goal was using ffmpeg with complete effectiveness, rather than getting one particular sub.
