Kaia is 12 years old and has lost her father in a diving accident. While her mother tries to keep the family together, Kaia lies and sneaks away from the support group to go on diving adventures in the local swimming pool. Beneath the surface, Kaia searches for her father in a magical world under water, while trying to understand death without fear.

In Diving Deep, I dive back into my childhood memories to try to understand the grief I felt as a child after losing my mother. Speaking with grown ups I experienced an alienation from their estranged phrases that where ment as a compfort. I felt like they didn’t understand that the pain the words could convey was insignificant compared to the pain I already felt. In the short film, Kaia tries to find comfort deep under the surface of the water. -Director Malene Begtrup

Great short though. An excellent find! Losing a parent is hard as an adult but it affects kids even more, in deep and unpredictable ways.

At exactly 1 minute, Kaia sits up in the tub. I noticed what appeared to be some blurring so I looked at it again advancing frame by frame. Sure enough you can see the area they've blurred jumping around as you go forward. Call it a digital pasty. They revealed more than they wanted to, so they retroactively censored it. Sad to see American prudishness in Denmark.

I don't think that's the case, today it is very complicated to have those types of scenes, it is likely that the director and actress agreed that it could not be shown more than necessary and the angle where it was filmed could have gone wrong.
