Yeah, you can kinda tell, as there's no special effects to speak of (maybe a little switch-eroo edit), and as I said; there weren't any big name actors to pay. There were two basic settings; in the house and the surrounding woods (OH! And a couple of scenes in Malcolm's friend's house..) AND it was probably shot on video and not film...
