Off and On topic request

Hi all
As you know I've been here a while now and have contributed quite a lot, and also learned and received a lot. I think I have decided that I need this site for the great films you all contribute, but at the same time that I am not really interested in just any old film with subject matter - really I look for good stories, different stories and topical/unusual stories. If they happen to have topic, that is bonus. I will continue to post but only if I consider they are of interest. I downloaded a DEFA film recently school ghost (schul something) and was a load of crap for me, but may be considered OT in here I don't know ? So I won't waste my time with these anymore.
So to second part of request, maybe you want to pm as this part is probably off-topic. Does anyone know any good movie forums (not necessarily oT), where similarly brilliant sharing to that which happens here can be joined ? Looking mainly for links/descriptions/screenshots etc for good foreign movies (but also UK/US if any good). Kind of films I like are memento, the others, sixth sense and that kind of non run-of the mill topics. Also which newsgroups cater for this kind of stuff.
Apologies if off-topic but thanks for any suggestions.

That's what is wanted here.
There's PLENTY of great movies out these days, and my interests, like yours [and I'm sure MOST folks that visit THIS forum] varies. Like you I too prefer good stories; movies that might be considered a bit offbeat but are well made. Hell, I even love a good, raunchy Z-grade movie if it hits me the right way...
Point is, THIS particular forum [as reiterated time and again] focuses on movies that deal with 'Children', from all over the world. More often than not; [specifically] 'Coming-Of-Age' movies that deal with the transition from Childhood to Adulthood [more 'emotionally' than 'physically']. Many movies in this genre are somewhat controversial and hard to find due to their subject matter.
(For me, movies where the main characters are young girls, or young girls play predominate roles are more appealing than movies featuring young boys; but that's personal aesthetics...)
I would say the [plumbline] question for considering whether to post a movie on THIS forum should be:
Is the movie about children; or do children play a significant role in the plot?
If not, the movie might be better received in a different forum. Plain and simple.
(Rich, I know this post was really YOURS to answer [as creator, I'm sure your vision of this forum is much more in-depth...], but I wanted to put my 2 cents in...

No that's fine Kev - I think you contribute as much at least as I do, and i am nothing to do with running this forum.
all other comments welcome, and if you are member of another forum that deals with great films (not Hollywood shite), please post details, either here (if allowed by admins), or by PM if prefer.
thanks to all who respond

This forum is becoming too full of movies that star children but have no OT scenes.
I could spend all day posting movies with children in them, but it will just make searching for "special movies" that much longer to do for the Majority.
Also, regulars / mods etc have posted movies casting girls deemed to be to old, but the films have not been removed because they are still of interest to lots of us due to there possibly titillating scenes based on growing up etc.
It wont be long before someone posts the link for Home Alone

, Oh god please dont tell me it has been posted already!

lol, probably not
information about mainstream childhood movies should not really be posted here, the majority of these are US and usually are not representative of real childhood... infact i would go as far as to say they serve to influence children towards a direction they "should" be acting/behaving/living.
besides from a safety point of view it may become a risk to the site if movie information here did concern more mainstream films.
as for non-US childhood films, i would always welcome information on these, they are usually very refreshing - although in the past 5-10 years many are US influenced

- and anyway even if they are boring it still completes the forum a little bit
as for off-topic or on-topic, damn i really dont want to have to spell it out

my advice is that if you want to know something about a movie then ask (or if you want to be more discreet PM the poster, or if you really, really want to know then i should be able to find out for you), or even better use the internet to find out more about it
well, hope that clears things up, if not feel free to PM me

So true!! To be honest I didn't think to mention avoiding the 'mainstream' Children's movies. (lol: THAT is what I meant by Rich getting more 'in-depth'... Honing down the specificity a bit more!

mm well confued now cos didn't really mean this to be an on/off conv. Anyway - we got loads of regular viewers and contributors and not all are into (exclusively) LGs (although nothing wrong about that), so going back to original req - looking for forums which deal in the same fantastic way as this does, with (not necessarily OT) non-hollywood movies.
That is the only reason I put on/off topic header.
Cheers all
Now if you want to tell me to shut the f*** up...

when discussing film info posted here it will always tend towards is this offtopic/ontopic? hopefully referral to sites such as CIC an RFF will solve the content issue

There seems to be a major downer on US films and mainstream films in particular. I've enjoyed some of the hollywood films as I have European films, some of the European films have been absolute crap and I have found it perplexing in reading people drool over certain films which are rubbish but we all have our own subjective opinion. A lot of the films I have enjoyed don't meet the criteria of some of the people who regularly moan about is this or that worthy because it doesn't contain what they want. I find myself dissuaded from posting films which I have enjoyed. I found Tideland disapointing, in truth it bored me but I appreciate the opportunity to view it.

Hehe! Jodelle Ferland scared me so much in her guest appearance on 'The Collector' that I find it very difficult to see her as 'cute'.
I must admit I'd rather have cute and adorable than so called OT scenes; if a cute and adorable movie has a few OT scenes, that's a welcome bonus as it enhances the cute and adorable factor.
